Town Talk for Nov. 7
I PITY THE so-called Christian who called in and compared homosexuality to murder and rape. Homosexuality is not a crime or an act of violence. This is an expression of love between two people of the same gender. As for the biblical quote, does this Christian follow Leviticus 17 on the preparation of food or believe Leviticus 25, verse 44 and 45, on allowing slavery? I think more Christians might want to try turning to the New Testament and following the teachings of Jesus to advocate His love and compassion and have nothing to say against homosexuality. None of his businessTO THE TOWN TALK entitled "It's a moral belief." He starts off "As a Christian, it amazes me that people are looking at me like I'm a bad person because I don't advocate gay/lesbian lifestyle." That's fine. But then after quoting some scriptures, he flips it around and says that they don't have to be out there trying to flaunt it. Well, it's nobody's business. Nobody's flaunting it, with the possible exception of the Gay Pride Parade. It's none of his business anymore than a man and a woman who are not married living together. It may be immoral to him, but it's none of his business. What's he doing peering into the bedroom windows of gays or lesbians? Tell him to mind his own business. This is a free country. Why the paranoia? WHEN ARE THESE people going to get it? Sexual activity, all sexuality activity, including heterosexuality and homosexual activity, is, indeed, a choice. But sexual orientation and sexual inclination is genetic from birth just like blue eyes and red hair. Why are they so paranoid about people who have a sexual orientation different than theirs? Homosexuals and lesbians are roughly 10 percent of the population in general. Is there a minister in the house? WHY ARE SO many people affected by the California fires? Why were so many people affected by Katrina? I would like an ordained minister to answer this question not someone that thinks they know all the answers. Chicken lickin' gone WE WERE TALKING the other day about Kentucky Fried Chicken. There's none around here. None on Kingshighway, none on Hampton and none on Chippewa. There's a lot of empty stores, that they could rent around this neighborhood. I wish you would look into it. That Wendy's is empty on Kingshighway. That was a good one. Rumble from the Patch I WAS READING your Town Talk about the motorcycle club's response to sometimes they get a little rowdy. You guys are liars. I live right across the street from you. I hear you every night out there, hollering, revving up your motorcycles, acting crazy. And by the way, I was minding my business. So why don't you guys be quiet. Enough is enough. Quit all this bickering or either that or move. This is a quiet area. Crow shoot REGARDING THE DECLINING crow population: I'm wondering if people are aware that the Missouri Department of Conservation is allowing hunting of crows from Nov. 1 to March 3. I have tried to get a reason because the population has been so decimated. Why are they allowing this? And I've gotten no reply from either the Conservation Department or our State Rep. Jim Avery. I would love to know why this is happening. Where are my taxes going? MAYOR SLAY WANTS the St. Louis citizens to approve another sales tax increase to support the police department. What I want to know is where the windfall of tax money paid to the government of St. Louis City in the last two years from the outrageous property tax increase is going? What's that you say? THIS IS FOR the old foggy that called in complaining about how loud the kids play their stereos and rattling your windows and stuff. In here you say just remember you're going to be our age one of these days and you're going to have to listen to the same junk we here now. No, they won't because they'll all be deaf from listening to it now. The Bible saysÂ….. I WOULD LIKE to address all these Bible bashers: you know the people that use Bible quotations to justified bashing gay people, the Jews, the blacks, whatever, whoever. I have a few quotations for you. To begin with the Bible says love thy neighbor as thy would thy self. Secondly, Jesus said, "Even so much as you do this to the least of one of mine so you do unto me." The third one is the golden rule, "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you." Finally, the best one I like is, "Whatsoever you would lose on earth I should lose in heaven." So, therefore, when you get in front of God and He uses all these Bible quotations to show how prejudiced He is against you for the way that you treated His children, remember you are a Christian. Disappearing landfills THIS GROUP SO against our new county trash program always seems to be proud of the fact that they don't recycle; it's not worth their time. Don't they realize we are running out of landfills? They seem to be the ones waving the flag and are so patriotic only when it involves their not changing anything in their lifestyles. Wake up. We're in the 21st century. Emissions exemption THE PERSON CALLING in about the auto emissions testing has their information a little mixed up. Here's the correct information: You do not have to be a senior citizens to comply. All cars that have been driven less than 12,000 miles since their last safety inspection two years ago are exempt from the auto emission testing requirements. You must fill out and submit a form when you go to renew your license. The form is titled "Mileage Based Exemption Request." It can be found on the Website www.gatewayvip.com or by calling 416-2115 Stoeffler A-OK I'M JUST CALLING to say my very favorite column in your paper is John Stoeffler's "As I see it." He is the most informative reporter you have. Middle of the road THIS IS A comment about all you idiots who walk down the middle of the street and I've got to swerve to avoid hitting you. That's what the sidewalk is for, Duh, idiots. Use it. Tax hike I'M A RETIRED senior on a fixed income. I just got my tax bill increase of 21 percent for over $500. There's no reason to improve your property in St. Louis County because your taxes will just go up. Federal bailouts I AM SICK and tired of people making dumb decisions and expecting the government to bail them out. They build their homes on flood plains, which flood regularly. They build their homes in fire areas, which have repeated fires. They buy ARMs instead of fixed fee loans. And when it comes time to pay for their mistakes, they want the federal government to pay for it. Well, I'm tired of paying for their mistakes as every citizen in the country is. Out-of-state plates I AGREE WITH the person about the Illinois plates. It is not just in South County. It's also in south St. Louis. There are people that have been living there for 10 plus years and they have Illinois plates. Maybe that's what we Missouri residents need to do also. Raised on violence OUR CHILDREN ARE raised on war weapons and killings. And then people are running around in this country scratching their heads wondering why our children are violent. Did you ever hear of cause and effect? Nobody's business I'M GETTING TIRED of these right-winged Christian conservatives calling in all the time and voicing their opinion about what I should do. It's my choice what I do as long as it's not illegal. If I want to watch porn in my house, that's legal. If I want to walk on my car in my driveway, if my girlfriend wants to have an abortion. Mind your own business and don't worry about what I do. It's nobody else's business as long as I abide by the law. Tired of homophobes I'M CALLING about some of the responses to the story about the gay scholarship recipient. I'm just so tired of people trying to cram their anti-homosexual agenda down everybody else's throat. I mean the few people who are the same gender want to live together and get married. Why can't you just leave them alone? If you're Christian, why don't you take a look in the Bible. Jesus didn't say anything He didn't condemn homosexuals. He condemned the self-righteous people who breed hate. Fortunately for these people there's help. They have a condition called homophobia. They should go see a psychiatrist, get on some medication, get some help for their problem. |
